Strategies and Things to Avoid with Japanese TV Coverage

Things to Be Careful of in Japanese TV Programs: Heavy Makeup and Bad Hairdos
  • There are other taboos in fashion. Honestly, the worst faux pas are heavy makeup and bad hairdos.
  • It sometimes happens that a woman who looks ordinary during pre-production meetings suddenly comes out with a huge layer of makeup on their face the day of the shoot.
  • I will be honest. It is tough to put that on the air. Viewers will be greatly distracted by the excessive makeup. Visually, it is strange and it ruins the entire interview. TV viewers are not the nicest crowd either, with some viewers watching to find any sort of negatives. This is neither desirable for the company nor the TV network so the production may ask you to redo your makeup in such a case.
  • Similarly, with men, a blatant hairpiece is far worse than a bald head. A good example is Shuji Aneha. Bloggers and message boards were filled with endless mocking comments, not about him, but his hair. You can see how that may not be desirable.
  • In the end, natural is the way to go.
