Glossary of "Gyokai (Japanese television industry)" Terms Frequently Used During Negotiations Part2
  • "Kanpake" (comp. pack.), short for "Complete Package"
Refers to a program with "completed material", which includes not only the main program but all commercials and the title to be aired with the program; it is already to be aired.
  • "Q (cue)"
The signal used to begin the recording and/or broadcast. At the production location, the word "Q" is often called out loud when the camera starts recording. The word is usually inscribed as letter "Q". The word is used in the context of: "Please come in as I call out Q!"
  • "Ketsu-kattchin (ending promptly)
It means the ending time is strictly decided. Ketsu (end) means the ending time of a program and/or shooting. The word would be used, for example, when someone feels anxious about the shooting time. The person might say: "What time would be the Ketsu?"
  • "Sute (dumped) Cut"
The excess picture that would be cut off during editing. "Sute (dumped) cut" is often saved and sorted by the context, because they may still get used in order to adjust the length of a person making a comment on something. The word would be used in the context of: "We want a Sute -cut, so please stay still until you hear our OK signal, after you finish making your comment."
